Scholarships, fellowships etc. are an integral part of Indian education policy and administration. They help in generating enthusiasm among the recipients to pursue and achieve their knowledge and professional goals. In a increasingly global world where national borders have become meaningless, there is a need to create a strong and vibrant educational system capable of producing world-class competent individuals who can work in the increasingly challenging environment. The system of scholarships recognizes an individual’s merit and achievement. It helps in expanding social opportunities for students to pursue their career goals.
The scholarships, fellowships and similar kinds of incentives meant specially for the socially under-privileged sections of our society create enormous enthusiasm for achieving their career objectives. It is with this view to provide equality of opportunity, particularly for education and employment of the socially deprived sections and religious minorities that an effort has been made to present information on scholarships, fellowships and other kinds of education incentives, including educational loans, available in India for all levels of education, through the Government of India’s Portal.
Website present around 200 scholarships for study in India offered by over 60 universities/institutions and organizations, over 20 scholarships from the non-government sources and 28 external scholarships exclusively offered by MHRD for study abroad. The website also presents information about educational loans offered by 23 banks (public and private) in India. It is expected that this information will benefit over 5 million students pursuing general education, technical and professional, medicine and related areas, agriculture and veterinary science, and other areas including Management, Journalism, Law, Music Dance, Social work etc.
The Portal is not only a single-window source of information for all educational support (fellowships and similar incentives), and the educational providers in India, but it also deals with the admission policy announcements i.e. the facility of applying for scholarships on line, with the support of universities, institutions and Ministries, autonomous organizations etc. This facility will enable the students to know of the status/position of their application for scholarships applied for.
